Anthony J. Charmello, Jr., 65, of South Amboy died on Thursday March 15, 2018 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy. Born in South Amboy he lived in Laurence Harbor before returning to South Amboy 21 years ago. He was the owner of AC Construction, South Amboy. Known as “Baseball Grandpop” he was the official foul ball chaser for South Amboy Travel and High School Baseball. A baseball lover, he was also a manager, coach, board member and umpire for Laurence Harbor Little League for many years. He enjoyed his family, friends, fishing, playing cards, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren.
Son of the late Anthony J., Sr. and Helen Patricia Hyer Charmello he is also predeceased by his son Andrew. He is survived by his wife Karen Cataldi Charmello; his son and daughter-in-law Fred and Amy Charmello of South Amboy; his daughters and sons-in-law Stacey and Joe Baxter and Heather and Bill Parsons all of South Amboy; his brothers Jimmy Charmello and David Charmello and his wife Wendy all of South Amboy; his sister Barbara Oppizzi of Morganville and his grandchildren Brandy, Nick, Anna, Charlie, Angel and Ava.
Funeral services will be held on Monday March 19, 2018 at 7:30pm at The Gundrum Service “Home For Funerals” 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy. Cremation will be private. Visitation will be on Monday from 4 to 8pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to South Amboy High School Varsity Baseball “Crew Cuts for a Cure” in memory of Grandpop Tony Charmello. Checks may be made payable to South Amboy High School and mailed to the funeral home; attention: SAHS Baseball.
