Charles John Winkler, a.k.a, Chuck 90, of Old Bridge passed away peacefully on Monday October 3, 2016 at his home. Born and raised in Albany, New York, Chuck moved to Madison Park, a development in Old Bridge, NJ in the 1950's and continued to reside there the rest of his life. He was a proud alumnus of Christian Brothers Academy in Albany and a U.S. Navy veteran, serving as a signalman during World War II. After the Navy, Chuck took a pipefitting apprenticeship with New York Central Railroad in NYC. Upon moving to New Jersey, he was a draftsman and designer for Regina Electric Corporation and later employed by Educational Developmental Laboratory, a division of McGraw Hill until his retirement. Chuck was dedicated in his service to St. Bernadette's Church in Parlin as an usher and a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #8478. Chuck was a loyal, devoted husband and father. He found joy and comfort in music and had a true appreciation for Jazz, the Blues, and a Frank Sinatra tune will forever bring fond memories of him. One of his most treasured accomplishments was the home Chuck designed and built for his family in his beloved Wells, New York in the Adirondack Mountains. Wells was a place where he and his late wife Betty spent many wonderful moments raising their children and grandchildren, surrounded by family and friends.

Son of the late Charles Thomas and Gertrude A. Zwack Winkler, he is also predeceased by his devoted wife of 67 years, Elizabeth "Betty" Dorothy Tobin Winkler on August 19, 2014; his brother Joseph Winkler and his sister Gertrude Winkler. Charles is survived by his loving children, Margaret Lundgren and her husband Albert of Middletown, Kathleen Melchior of Chicago, Illinois, Charles T. Winkler and his wife Dorothy of Freehold, John Winkler and his wife Lisa of South Amboy, Robert Winkler of Old Bridge and Mary Grace Burkard of Old Bridge; 17 adoring grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday October 7, 2016 at 8:45am from The Gundrum Service "Home For Funerals" 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy followed by a 9:30am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Bernadette Church, Parlin. Cremation will be private. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4 to 8pm.

"I have passed the mountain peak and my soul is soaring in the firmament of complete and unbounded freedom; I am in comfort, I am in peace."
