Joseph A. Szraga, Sr., 93, of South Amboy died on Friday October 21, 2016 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in South Amboy he lived there all his life. Before retiring in 1985 he was employed by Conrail/Amtrak in New York Penn Station for 42 years. A United States Navy veteran of World War II, he was a life member of VFW Post 645. A member of St. Mary’s R.C. Church, South Amboy, he was also a member of the South Amboy First Aid Squad, the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and the South Amboy Senior Citizens.

Son of the late Joseph and Sophie Hejniak Szraga he is also predeceased by his wife Marie Post Szraga in 1986 and his grandson Robert Joseph Burkhart. He is survived by his son Joseph Szraga, Jr. of Middletown; his daughters Darlene Post of Lantana, Florida, Andrea Frackiewicz and her husband Rob of Boca Raton, Florida, Kathryn Senkeleski of Howell, Joanne Job and her husband John of South Amboy and Marianne Burkhart and her husband Chet of South Amboy; his sisters Mary Voorhees of Zephyrhills, Florida and Helen Latkovich of Spotswood; his grandchildren Robert T. Post III, Bryan Szraga, Scarlett Senkeleski, Lauren Frackiewicz, Marie Daley, Traci Daniel and David Burkhart; his great-grandchildren Alex, Lainie and Jaxson and his caretaker Liliya Zenina.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday October 27, 2016 at 9:45am from The Gundrum Service “Home For Funerals” 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy followed by a 10:30am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Parlin. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4 to 8pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the South Amboy First Aid Squad, PO Box 328, South Amboy, NJ 08879.
