Rev. Kevin Paul Duggan, 63, of Toms River, died suddenly on Thursday July 6, 2017 at home. Born in Dorchester, Massachusetts he has lived in New Jersey since 1985. He was ordained a Roman Catholic priest in St. Francis of Assisi Cathedral, Metuchen on May 30, 1987 by Most Reverend Edward T. Hughes. Fr. Duggan attended Quincy Public Schools and graduated from Archbishop Williams High School in Braintree, Massachusetts in 1972, where he was chosen by his peers as “Mr. AWHS”. After graduation from High School he attended St. John’s College of Liberal Arts, receiving a Bachelors Degree in Philosophy and History in 1976. He then worked within the successful Massachusetts gubernatorial campaign of Edward J. King and worked in state government before returning to St. John’s Seminary, ultimately obtaining a Masters of Divinity Degree. After ordination Fr. Duggan served as Associate Pastor at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Old Bridge, Pastor of Corpus Christi Church, South River, weekend assistant at St. Mary’s Church, South Amboy and Pastor of St. James the Less Church, Jamesburg. He recently obtained a Masters Degree in Counseling from The College of New Jersey, Ewing and passed the National Certification Exam.

Son of the late Dennis M., Sr. and Margaret E. Garvin Duggan he is survived by his brother and sister-in-law Dennis M., Jr. and Mary Duggan of Milton, Massachusetts; his sisters and brothers-in-law Maura Ann and Jonathan Howe of Norwell, Massachusetts and Sheila Mary and Robert Fisher of Lady Lake, Florida; his nieces and nephews Jonathan M. Duggan, Jennifer Duggan Korn, Emily Duggan Harrison, Elizabeth Duggan; Patrick and Austin Howe; Robert and Kevin Fisher; his great-nieces and nephews Bradan, Cael, and Dermot Duggan, Allison, Matthew, and Meredith Korn, and Peter Harrison; and his friend and colleague of over 30 years Fr. Dennis Weezorak of St. Mary’s Church, South Amboy.

Father Duggan’s body will be received at St. James the Less Church, 36 Lincoln Avenue, Jamesburg, New Jersey 08831 on Tuesday July 11, 2017 at 2pm and will lie in state from 2 to 7pm. A Mass of Commemoration will be offered on Tuesday at 7:30pm. A visitation will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home For Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, Massachusetts 02169 on Wednesday July 12, from 4 to 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday July 13 at 10:30am at Sacred Heart Church, 386 Hancock Street, North Quincy, Massachusetts followed by interment in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury, Massachusetts. New Jersey arrangements are under the direction of The Gundrum Service “Home For Funerals” 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy, NJ 08879.
