John R. Sturgis

John R. Sturgis, 63, of South Amboy died on Tuesday April 16, 2024 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in South Amboy he lived there all his life. Before retiring he was employed by Michaelson’s, South River. A member of Christ Episcopal Church, South Amboy he was also an Exempt Member and Ex-Captain of Mechanicsville Hose Company #10, South Amboy. An avid fan of the New York Jets, Mets and Knicks he was known to make a friend everywhere he went. He loved spending time with his children and granddaughter.

Son of the late Ira and Barbara Masterson Sturgis he is survived by his wife Christine Ann Peters Sturgis; his son and daughter-in-law John, Jr. and Julia Sturgis; his daughter Jennifer Sturgis; his granddaughter Toryanna and his nephews Billy and Kevin.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday April 20, 2024 at 9:45am from The Gundrum Service “Home For Funerals” 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy followed by a 10:30am Requiem Eucharist at Christ Church, South Amboy. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, South Amboy. Visitation will be on Friday from 4 to 8pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the South Amboy Fire Department, 140 North Broadway, South Amboy, NJ 08879.
