Thomas V. Tice, 66, of South Amboy died on Saturday July 21, 2018 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy. Born in South Amboy he lived in Manhattan for 7 years before returning home. A 1969 graduate of St. Mary’s High School, South Amboy he went on to become a teacher there, retiring after a 25 year career. He earned Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Belmont Abbey, Kean University and New York University. A member of St. Mary’s R.C. Church, South Amboy he once served as president of the South Amboy Board of Education and was named Lions Club Teacher of the Year. An ardent civil rights activist, he marched in Washington, D.C. many times. He was the organizer of Hand in Hand, an organization for children with mental and physical challenges. In addition to being a mentor to many, an accomplished artist and an avid fan of the New York Yankees, he was the world’s foremost chartreuse enthusiast.
Son of the late Vernon F. and Gladys M. Dougherty Tice he is survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law Timothy and Georgann Tice and Terrance and Maureen Tice; his sisters and brothers-in-law Nancy Tice and James M. Millan and Tracey and Joseph Cook and his nieces Breann Petroutsos and her husband Spiro and Katherine Tice.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday July 26, 2018 at 8:45am from The Gundrum Service “Home For Funerals” 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy followed by a 9:30am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s R.C. Church, South Amboy. Cremation will be private. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5 to 9pm.
