Bernadette McCarron Obituary

Bernadette Marie McCarron, 80, of Falls Church, Virginia, died on July 27, 2024 at INOVA Fairfax Hospital in Fairfax, Virginia.

Born in Jersey City, NJ, Bernadette graduated from St. Michael’s High School, Jersey City.  She moved to Virginia in 1966 and joined the Foreign Service of the State Department and began a long, distinguished career.  She travelled widely with foreign assignments including positions at the American embassies in Portugal, Spain, Chile and Austria. She also served in the U.S. Mission to the United Nations in New York City. Following her retirement from the federal government, she started a second career, working in the parish offices of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Falls Church, VA, and also volunteered at Alexandria Hospital and the Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C.  She was an avid reader, enjoyed travelling, spending time with family and friends and keeping up with her nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. 

Daughter of the late George J. and Margaret Rand McCarron, she is also predeceased by her sister Regina Dolan (nee McCarron) and husband Edward Dolan; brother, George V. McCarron; and brother Peter McCarron and wife Caroline. She is survived by her brothers, Robert McCarron and wife Linda of Sewell NJ; William McCarron and wife Ann of Vineland NJ; and Mark McCarron and wife JoAnne of Centreville VA; 5 nieces, 3 nephews and 8 great nieces and nephews.

Cremation was private. Entombment will take place on Wednesday August 28, 2024 at 12 noon at St. Mary's Cemetery Mausoleum, South Amboy under the direction of The Gundrum Service "Home For Funerals" 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy.
