Catherina Filocamo Mento Obituary

Catherina (Cathy) Mary Mento (nee Filocamo) was born on January 16, 1962 in Brooklyn, NY and transitioned peacefully surrounded by her family at her home in Sayreville, NJ after a heroic 12-year battle with cancer on May 16, 2024.

Cathy grew up in Brooklyn, NY.  This is where she learned to love cooking and was known to be quite feisty despite being 5’2”.  It was in the streets of Brooklyn, where she caught Joseph “Fish” Mento’s eye. It was love at first sight for Fish. This led to many dates, and walks on the avenue. After he won her heart, she was truly devoted to him. The two were married on November 26, 1983, and had their first child, Michael Anthony in 1985, followed by Rina Victoria in 1990. This allowed Cathy to accomplish what she wanted in life - to love, be loved, and to have a family of her own. Family was important to her.

Cathy and Fish made the move to Sayreville, NJ in 1988 and purchased their family home, where they raised their two children. In 1991, she began working at the Grand Marquis Reception Hall where she stayed for 33 years.  Cathy loved working at the Marquis and made many strong and lasting friendships with a company that treated her like family.

Cathy was a do-er. If you wanted something done everyone knew Cathy would help, take care of it! She was a loving mother and everyone’s biggest cheerleader. Cathy always had your back! Cathy was also blessed with a love for cooking and made the most delicious meatballs and risotto. She and Fish traveled mostly to beaches around the world and their summer home in Seaside Heights, NJ. They had many unique experiences together and were blessed to never argue a day in their lives.

Most will fondly remember Cathy for her beautiful smile, and her willingness to always help those less fortunate.

Cathy immediately lit up any room she entered and made an impact on so many people. She was a joyful presence with her bubbly personality. She loved her friends and family, and filled her home with warmth and kindness.

Cathy was preceded in death by her mother Rina Filocamo; grandfather and grandmother Frank and Francis Savarese; her brother Victor Filocamo. She is survived by her husband of 40 years Joseph Mento, Sayreville NJ; her son Michael Mento and his wife Nanci; her daughter Rina Houston and her husband Travon; her 7 grandchildren Anthony, Milania, Sofia, Francesca, Carmelo, Cedell, and Michael Jr; her uncle and aunt, Anthony & Linda Savarese, her father-in-law Joseph Mento, and her father Frank Filocamo, along with many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
