Catherine Ann “Kitchie” Manka Venturi, 79, of South Amboy passed away on Tuesday January 26, 2021 at Venetian Care and Rehabilitation Center, South Amboy. Kitch and her husband Joe were married on May 9, 1964. Kitch will always be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Kitch also cherished and referred to her wonderful friendships throughout her life as “Blessings”. Kitch, with her husband and children, were avid travelers, once taking a trip around the world. Kitch was raised in Scranton, Pennsylvania and was a graduate of St. John the Baptist School, West Scranton Senior High School and St. Mary’s Hospital in Scranton. She worked at Moses Taylor Hospital and also the Visiting Nurse Association. While in Hawaii, when her husband was flying missions during the Vietnam War, Kitch worked in Waihiah General Hospital. In addition to traveling the world with Joe, Kitch enjoyed their many cruises and the Atlantic City casinos, especially when she participated in the live stage game shows.
Daughter of the late Edward R. and Catherine Saffer Manka she is also predeceased by her sister Elizabeth “Betsy” Manka and her daughter-in-law Eileen Venturi. She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years Joseph F. Venturi; her daughter Mary Catherine Polone Venturi; her son Joseph G. Venturi; her most adored grandchildren Robert Joseph, Marissa, Jennifer and Kristine; her brother Edward F. Manka; her sisters Marjorie DeMarco and her husband Joseph, Mary Ellen Errico and her husband John, Ann Emiliani and her husband Emil, and her sisters-in-law Joan Lown and Marie Venturi.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday January 28, 2021 at 10:15am from The Gundrum Service “Home For Funerals” 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy followed by an 11am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s R.C. Church, South Amboy. Visitation will be on Thursday morning only from 9 to 10:15am. Interment will be on Friday January 29, 2021 at 11:30am in Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton, Pennsylvania. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Pound Dog Found Dog Rescue or Community Hope: Hope for Veterans.
