Charles Koerner, 90, of South Amboy died on Sunday July 9, 2023, at JFK Medical Center, Edison, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Long Branch, he lived in South Amboy most of his life. He was employed by the South Amboy Water Department before his retirement. Charles was a Korean War veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was an avid fisherman and loved being out on the water. He also enjoyed playing basketball in his younger years and watching as a fan later in life.
Son of the late Charles Koerner and Margaret Deats Morgan, he is also predeceased by his siblings Margaret Ennis, Doris Parson and John Koerner. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jean Inman Koerner; his daughters Kathleen O’Leary and her husband Jack, Nancy Dieker, and Sharon Thasites and her husband John; his grandchildren Jack, Patrick and Ryan O’Leary, Heidi Dieker, Diana, Kara, and Johnny Thasites and his great-grandson Alexander Acevedo.
Funeral services will be held on Friday July 14, 2023 at 10:15am at The Gundrum Service “Home For Funerals” 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy followed by interment in Christ Church Cemetery, South Amboy. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4 to 7pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
