Dorothy E. Roman Hessner, 91, of Perth Amboy, New Jersey died on Monday, September 13, 2021 at Spring Grove Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center, New Providence. Born in Perth Amboy, she lived in South Amboy and Perth Amboy all of her life, before relocating to her daughter’s in Berkeley Heights earlier this year. Dorothy was an incredibly hardworking wife and mother, who was employed as a seamstress, waitress, salesperson, and, before retiring, as secretary for many years at St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church in Perth Amboy. Dorothy was a deeply faithful person, and her love for God was evident in her relationships with her family and her church. Dorothy greatly enjoyed dancing, decorating and crocheting. Dorothy spent many years pursing her hobbies of photography and ceramics, and was an avid gardener who loved spending time with her family and beloved pets.
Daughter of the late Nicholas and Anna Haluska Roman, she is also predeceased by her husband of over 50 years, Wilmer Hessner (2002), her sister Anita Giangrande (2020), her granddaughter Katie Gomez (2016), and her son-in-law Nicholas Corrado (2021). Dorothy is survived by her children Mary Anne O’Sullivan of Berkeley Heights, Sr. Wilma Jean Hessner of Chester, Robert Raymond Hessner and his wife Denise of Stony Brook, NY, Carolyn Jayne Corrado of Warminster, PA, and Paula Irene Hessner of Perth Amboy; her sister Gail Roman Golden and her husband Lawrence of Woodbridge; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, September 17, 2021 at 10:30a.m. at St. Mary’s R.C. Church, 256 Augusta Street, South Amboy, followed by interment in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Fords. Visitation will be in St. Mary’s Church on Friday morning only from 9 to 10:15a.m. Arrangements are under the direction of The Gundrum Service “Home For Funerals” 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy.
