Dorothy Helen (Surowka) Damico, 92, passed away at home on December 29, 2021with her loving family around her. She was born and raised in South Amboy, until she moved to Morgan when she got married. She was a lifelong parishioner of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in South Amboy and a member of the Sacred Heart Holy Rosary Society. Dorothy was an experienced “knitter” and many family members enjoyed wearing the knitted jackets and blankets she made. She was employed by Ronson Lighter as a Bookkeeper, until she had her twin daughters. She was a School Crossing Guard in Sayreville for 23 years, standing on the corner of Jesse Selover Elementary School. She was married to her loving husband, Charles Damico, for 58 years.
Dorothy is predeceased by her parents, Pauline and Julius Surowka, her husband, Charles Damico, her daughter Charlene Ettel, her sisters and brothers-in-law Alice and Vince Mancini, Maryann and Thomas Huguenin, and her nephews Scott Huguenin and Dr. Jeffrey Huguenin.
Surviving are her loving daughter Diane Damico Cox and son-in-law, Alvah Cox of Pawleys Island, SC, son-in-law, Richard Ettel, of Webster, FL, 5 grandchildren: Jessica Cox Misano (Justin), Alvah Cox (Nicole), Richelle Ettel, Richard Ettel (Courtney), Dorothy Gladden (Joseph), 5 great grandchildren: Peyton Ann, Gracelyn Annmarie, Elianna Noel, Charlie Ann, Reagan Ann, and many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and great grand nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday January 11, 2022 at 10am at Sacred Heart Church, 531 Washington Avenue, South Amboy, followed by interment in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Parlin. Memorial visitation will be on Monday from 4 to 7pm at The Gundrum Service “Home For Funerals” 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her great nephew’s name, Harrison Huguenin, to Autism New Jersey, 500 Horizon Drive, Suite 530, Robbinsville, NJ 08691.
