Elizabeth “Betty” Nebus Ryan, 73, of South Amboy died on Friday September 30, 2022 at the Venetian Care and Rehabilitation Center, South Amboy. Born in South Amboy she lived there all her life. Before retiring she was employed by the Matawan Board of Education at Strathmore Elementary School and then by the South River Board of Education. A 1971 graduate of Montclair State University, she was a member of the American Legion Post 62 Ladies Auxiliary and the Friends of the Vietnam Veterans of America.
Daughter of the late Joseph A. and Jadwiga “Harriet” Skowronski Nebus she is also predeceased by her beloved husband Robert “Smokey” Ryan in 2012; her stepdaughter Lisa Vega in 2016 and her beloved dogs Palzee and Rocky. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Rosemarie and Harry Scott; her brother and sister-in-law Joseph, Jr. and Mary Nebus; her stepdaughter Krista Comitini and her husband Chris; her grandchildren Kelli, Connor and Courtney Comitini and Arianna Vega; her brother-in-law William Ryan; her cousin Gloria Skowronski; her son-in-law Rob Vega and her nieces and nephews Joseph, III, Andrew, Ted and Alyssa.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday October 6, 2022 at 10am at Sacred Heart R.C. Church, 531 Washington Avenue, South Amboy followed by interment in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Parlin. Arrangements are under the direction of The Gundrum Service “Home For Funerals” 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Legion or Sacred Heart Church.
