Ferdinand Schwankert Obituary

Ferdinand W. Schwankert, 94, of Parlin, NJ passed away peacefully on Friday June 3, 2022 at Venetian Care & Rehabilitation Center, South Amboy. Ferdinand was born on May 31, 1928 in Newark, NJ. He married Alice Roland on September 23, 1950 and soon after they moved to Parlin where they would raise their three daughters. Ferdinand proudly served in the United States Marine Corps as a Corporal during the Korean War. His love of his Church and his Country were always evident. Ferdinand was a parishioner of St. Bernadette Church in Parlin since it opened its doors and he served as an usher there for 60 years! Before his retirement, he had three careers, each spanning approximately 15 years. He worked for Ballantine Brewery, then held supervisor and management positions with McDonald’s Corporation and then retired from management at the Star Ledger Piscataway plant. Ferdinand and Alice were married for 62 years and loved to go on cruises, travel to many states on the East Coast and took trips to California, Hawaii and Canada.

Son of the late Ferdinand L. and Maria Schwankert he is also predeceased by his beloved wife Alice Roland Schwankert in 2013. He is survived by his three loving daughters and sons-in-law Patricia and Thomas Henion of Lincoln Park, Susan and Allan Gargano of Brick and Lynn and Jeffrey Potts of North Plainfield and his two grandsons Brian and David Gargano. He will be cherished by all those whose lives he touched.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday June 7, 2022 at 8:45am from The Gundrum Service “Home For Funerals” 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy followed by a 9:30am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Bernadette Church, Parlin. Interment will be in Shoreland Memorial Gardens, Hazlet. Visitation will be on Monday from 4 to 8pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Alzheimer’s NJ or The Wounded Warrior Project.
