George Gay, Jr.

George “Skeeter” Gay, Jr., 75, of South Amboy died on Wednesday March 22, 2023 at JFK Medical Center, Edison. Born in Newark he was an Exempt Member and President of Progressive Fire Company, a member of Sacred Heart R.C. Church, South Amboy and a leader of Boy Scout Pack 98. He was a graduate of Newark Technical High School. He was employed as an owner and operator of his own trucking company until retiring.

Son of the late George, Sr. and Rosemary Liszka Gay he is also predeceased by his siblings Barbara LaPorta, Helen, Richard and Robert King, Robin Covert and Sherman Newberry. He is survived by his wife Sandra Maltese Gay; his sons and daughters-in-law Timothy and Lisa Gay and Brian and Jennifer Gay; his daughter Tricia Gay; his brothers Edward Humphries and William and Charles Newberry; his grandchildren Karyssia, Brian, Stephanie, Andrew, Kevin, Matthew, Nicholas and Issac and his great-grandson Kaiden.

Funeral services will be held on Monday March 27, 2023 at 9:15am from The Gundrum Service “Home For Funerals” 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy followed by a 10am Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church. Cremation will be private. Visitation will be on Sunday from 1 to 4pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the New Jersey Firemen’s Home, 565 Lathrop Avenue, Boonton, NJ 07005.
