Gerald “Otis” Garnett, 69, of South Amboy died on Friday February 11, 2022 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge. Born in South Amboy he lived there all his life. He was employed by South Amboy Department of Public Works for 35 years, spending 20 years as Superintendent and retiring as Director. A member of St. Mary’s R.C. Church, South Amboy he was an exempt member of South Amboy Fire Department, Enterprise Ladder #1.
Son of the late William Garnett and Virginia Crowe Mundy he is also predeceased by his stepfather Ken Mundy; his wife Aneca Applegate Garnett in 2017; his sons Mark Matarangolo in 2013 and Michael Matarangolo in 2014. He is survived by his sons Joseph Matarangolo and his wife Jane and Matthew Matarangolo; his daughters Ann Seres and her husband William and Aneca McNelly and her husband Lloyd; his brother William Garnett and his wife Linda; his grandchildren Aimee and Jill Matarangolo, Nicole Seres-Flynn and her husband Tom and Alexander and Sara McNelly; his great-grandchildren Amanda, Aniyah and Joseph; his nephew William Garnett; his niece Kelly Trzeciak and her husband Tom; his daughter-in-law Nancy Scocco and his dear friend Phebian.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday February 15, 2022 at 10am at The Gundrum Service “Home For Funerals” 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy followed by interment in Christ Church Cemetery, South Amboy. Visitation will be on Monday from 3 to 7pm. Flowers are not requested; in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the South Amboy First Aid Squad, P.O. Box 328, South Amboy, NJ 08879 or Deborah Heart & Lung Center.
