James Beshada

James Beshada, of Holmdel, formerly of South Amboy, passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at Bayshore Community Hospital, he was 82. Born August 25, 1940 in South Amboy, he was one of four children. Jim was always involved in South Amboy Babe Ruth coaching and his children’s sports. He was employed by the South Amboy Trust Company and First Fidelity Bank until his retirement. A member of St. Mary’s R.C. Church, South Amboy, he was also an Exempt Member of Independence Engine and Hose Company, where he was Fire Chief in 1987. One time he even made the cover of the NY Post as a “best-dressed fireman” because he would head to fires with his suit on.  An avid hunter and fisherman, he was a sports fanatic, rooting for Rutgers, the NY Yankees, and NY Giants.

Son of the late Theodore and Mildred Bright Beshada, he is predeceased by his siblings Patricia Moran, Dennis Beshada, and Suzanne Farmer. James is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Frances Banfield Beshada; his daughter Bridget Engle and her husband Mike; his son James Beshada, Jr. and his wife Valarie; his grandchildren Lauren Rametta and her husband John, Ian O’Connor, Evie Engle, Michael Engle, Jr., James W. Beshada, Rebecca Beshada and Erik Beshada, along with his grand-niece Emily Engle. The light of his life was his great-granddaughters Vera and Mylah Rametta, his girls.

Funeral services will be held on Friday April 21, 2023 at 8:45am at The Gundrum Service “Home For Funerals” 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy, followed by a 9:30am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church. Interment will be in New Calvary Cemetery, Parlin. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4 to 8pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
