James DeLamater, 75, of South Amboy died on Friday July 3, 2026 at home. Born in Hoboken he grew up in Weehawken and lived in Old Bridge before settling in South Amboy. He was previously employed as the Recreation Director for Teaneck Township. He was very active and involved in refereeing many sports. A member of Most Holy Redeemer Church, Matawan he also belonged to Alcoholics Anonymous.

Son of the late George and Mary Weldon DeLamater he is also predeceased by his wives Vivian Fuller and Pat Perez and his brothers John and George DeLamater. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Jamie and Jimmy Martinez; his grandchildren Kiara and Lawrence; his niece Megan DeLamater and his nephew Michael DeLamater.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday July 9, 2026 at 9:15am from The Gundrum Service “Home For Funerals” 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy followed by a 10am Mass of Christian Burial at Most Holy Redeemer Church. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Fairview. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 3 to 7pm.
