Joanne Knable Ust, 76, of South Amboy died on Wednesday January 6, 2021 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Newark she moved to Sayreville before settling in South Amboy. A member of St. Mary’s R.C. Church, South Amboy she was an exceptional athlete who hit a grand slam homerun in addition to being a hole-in-one golfer. Before retiring she was employed by FoodTown, South Amboy. She was passionate about gardening, was a talented baker and an amazing cook. She loved to travel and spend time with her family and was a proud Mema to her grandchildren.
Daughter of the late John and Anna Michalik Knable she is also predeceased by her brother John Knable and her sisters-in-law Dorothy Knable and Betty Jane Semenza. She is survived by her husband of 55 years Alexander Ust, Sr.; her children Alexander Ust, Jr. and his wife Barbara, Lynn Ust, Barbara Ann Tooker and her husband Ryan and Jeffrey Ust; her grandchildren Alexander, III, Emily and Jeannie Ust and Benjamin, Brody, Brielle and Brynn Tooker; her siblings Ronnie Knable and his wife Benita, Tony Knable and his wife Joanne, Tom and his wife Judy, Mike Knable, Susan Coughlin and her husband Walter Barbour, Eileen Marino and her husband Jerry, Patricia Knable and her husband Andy Kurnava, Mary Cuomo and her husband Bob and Linda Stalgaitis; her brothers-in-law Paul J. Ust, Jr. and his wife Paula and Daniel Ust and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday January 12, 2021 at 8:45am from The Gundrum Service “Home For Funerals” 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy followed by a 9:30am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church. Interment will be in Christ Church Cemetery, South Amboy. Visitation will be on Monday from 5 to 7pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Mary’s Food Pantry, 256 Augusta Street, South Amboy, NJ 08879 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
