John “Jack” Mulvey, 92, of South Amboy died on Sunday February 28, 2021 at home. Born in South Amboy he lived there all his life. An active life member of the South Amboy First Aid Squad he served for 62 years, reaching the rank of captain in 1965. A member of St. Mary’s R.C. Church, South Amboy he served as an usher for many years. Before retiring he was employed as an electrician for National Lead. A veteran of the United States Air Force, he was an avid fan of the Colonel D.B. Kelly Pipes and Drums as well as Villanova baseball. He served as Deputy Grand Marshal of the South Amboy St. Patrick’s Day Parade in 2008.
Son of the late John and Julia Howley Mulvey he is also predeceased by his brother James Mulvey in 2019. He is survived by his wife of 72 years Ann Ballo Mulvey; his children Susan Heimall and Tom Mulvey and his wife Carole; his grandchildren Lauren Stolte and her partner Ryan Villig, Mark Stolte and his fiancée Lynnette Aucone, Kevin Mulvey and his wife Athena and Dr. Erin Mulvey and her husband Len D’Andrea; his brother Butch Mulvey; his sister Kathleen Varano; his great-grandchildren Jack and Max Mulvey and Maverick Stolte; his dear friends Eileen and Jim Ryan and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday March 4, 2021 at 8:45am from The Gundrum Service “Home For Funerals” 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy followed by a 9:30am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm.
