Joseph Eugene Duggan, 72, of South Amboy passed away peacefully on Wednesday December 20, 2023 at home with his family by his side. Born in South Amboy he grew up in the Morgan section of Sayreville before residing in South Amboy for the past 40 years. Before retiring he was employed by Amtrak, New York Penn Station. After high school he entered the United States Marine Corps, attaining the rank of Lance Corporal and served in combat in Vietnam before being honorably discharged in 1971 and then served another 2 years as Military Police. Joe enjoyed playing cards, fishing and was a true pool shark. He was well-known for his quick wit and laidback personality. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his beloved family, especially his granddaughters.
Son of the late Eugene and Louise Timmons Duggan he is also predeceased by his wife Carol Ann Westfall Duggan; his daughter Jennifer Albern and his sister Carol Ochat. He is survived by his loving children Kathleen Was and her husband Artur and Joseph Robert Duggan and his wife Christine; his brother Eugene Duggan and his wife Dawn; his sister Patricia Duggan; his beloved grandchildren Madison, Kayleigh and Ava Was, Kaitlyn Duggan, Samantha Squires and Keith Anderson and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday December 27, 2023 at 10:15am from The Gundrum Service “Home For Funerals” 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy followed by an 11am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church. Cremation will be private. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4 to 8pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
