Jules (Julius) Kwiatkowski, Flagler County’s longest serving elected official after Bunnell Mayor Robinson serving for 17 years as Commissioner on the East Flagler County Mosquito Control District, many of them as Chair, entered eternal peace on December 2, 2025, at AdventHealth Stuart F. Meyer hospice, Palm Coast surrounded by his daughters after a brief illness.  He was 90.

Jules was born to Julius and Annabelle Kwiatkowski on January 4, 1935, in the predominately Polish section of Perth Amboy, NJ at the family home.  The family then moved to the Fords section of Woodbridge Township NJ.  Julius graduated from Woodbridge High School in 1953 where he was a member of their football team.

In 1957 he married the love of his life, Catherine Leonard whom he had dated since they were high school sophomores and were married for 62 years until her death in 2020.

The young couple then purchased property in the woods in Edison, NJ in 1958. Together with their families and friends they built their own home which they resided in until their move to Palm Coast FL in 1992.  In 1962 they welcomed daughter Pamela and in 1967 daughter Karen.

Jule first job was working at his family’s tavern, Lehigh, Hopelawn, NJ, cleaning up with his brothers.  He was next employed by Richmond Industries in Edison.  Jules then spent most of his working career as a US Postal letter carrier for 30 years.  He was president of the postal union when in 1970 they joined New York City letter carriers to defy federal law and go on strike.  Other unions across the country joined in resulting in many reforms in working conditions and safety.  Jules was also very involved in his Edison Community serving as a volunteer Fire Fighter at the Oak Tree Fire Dept. for 32 years.  He also served as president of the Edison Democrats and was a long-time member of the Edison Elks.

In 1992, Jules and Kay built their dream in Palm Coast, FL.  Instead of just relaxing in their retirement years both continued to be involved in their new community.  Jules continued in his volunteer fire duties as a Palm Coast Fire Police member for 12 years.  In 1998 he stayed to fight the Flagler County wildfires working 12 hour shifts even though he was already in his 60’s.  Jules had a large collection of wildfire related items which he set up as a display at the Flagler Library.  He was also involved in the Palm Coast leisure Services Council for 16 years and championed local arts.   Jules was a member of the NJ Social Club of Palm Coast, Palm Coast Elks, Palm Coast Knights of Columbus, and Flagler County Marine Corps League.  Jules and Kay also traveled extensively in their spare time.

One of Jules' greatest honors was in July 2022 when, in honor of the East Flagler County Mosquito Control District 70th Anniversary, Turtle sculpture #17 in the Flagler County Turtle Trail was named “Jules” in his honor.

Jules was active and dedicated to his loved ones, friends and community till the end.  He always lived life to the fullest.

In addition to his parent and wife, he was predeceased by his brother Carl.  He is survived by his daughters, Pamela Jeffrey (Tom) of Fords NJ, daughter Karen Edsall (Jeremy) of Virginia Beach Va, grandchildren Amber Edsall (Gabriel) of Virginia Beach Va, Hunter Edsall of Fair Play Co, William Jeffrey, Alexandra Va, great granddaughter Marcella.  Brother and sister-in-law Peter and Millie Kwiatkowski of Freehold NJ and numerous nieces and nephews.  Jules is also survived by dear friends, Diana Quinones, Bernie Rodriguez, Andrew Rodriguez, Eric and Emily Lore, Penny and Bob Knap and Kim Anderson, and all the Colleagues at the East Flagler County Mosquito Control District.  

Jules lived his life to the fullest and treated everyone with respect.  To remember him, live your life to the fullest always.

Cremation was private. A memorial service will be held on Friday June 26, 2026 at 11am at The Gundrum Service "Home For Funerals" 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy during visitation from 10 to 11am. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, South Amboy.
