Katherine Fritz Boehm Obituary

Boehm, Katherine Anna (Fritz), 94, of Sayreville, passed away on November 16, 2024 at the Parker Home at River Road, Piscataway.

Katherine was predeceased by her parents, Carl Joseph and Klara Katherine (Schuehle) Fritz, her sister, Marlene Fritz,RSM, and her beloved husband of nearly fifty years, Benjamin John.

She was a graduate of Our Lady of Victories Grammar School, St. Mary’s High School, St Peter’s School of Nursing, and received her Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude, from Jersey City State College. Her career encompassed hospital, industrial, medical office, and school nursing. She spent 32 years as a nurse in the Sayreville Public Schools and enjoyed the opportunity to teach young students about health and wellness.

Katherine was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Victories Roman Catholic Church.  She was a founding member (1974) and past president of the Sayreville Historical Society and spent many years archiving documents, preparing collections for public display, and fundraising for the society.  Katherine was a member of the Sayreville Cultural Arts Commission and the Middlesex County School Nurse association.

Throughout her life, Katherine had an avid interest in the history of her hometown and served as Borough Historian from 1995-2000. As a first generation American, she valued her heritage and treasured her relationships with aunts, uncles, and cousins in her parents’ hometown in Germany.  She and Ben traveled frequently to Europe and always spent some time with the extended family in Buehlertal.

Katherine cherished her friendships with classmates, colleagues at work, neighbors, and through her social and volunteer activities. She was supportive and loyal to her friends and loved time spent with them. As advancing age forced her to relinquish many social activities, she continued her tradition of brunch with family at Sunnyside Restaurant after Sunday Mass.

Her absolutely favorite place to be was at the shore, and spent time every summer with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren for a week or two on Long Beach Island. If there was any opportunity throughout the year to go to the beach, she was there.

Her greatest passion, though, was for her family, who love her so much. Katherine is survived by her children, Beth Boehm, Christopher Boehm and his wife Ann, Mary Kilgallen and her husband Bryan, and Kurt Boehm; her grandchildren, Nadim Nasr, Tania (Nasr) Hancock, Eric Boehm, David Boehm, Marisa Kilgallen, and Daniel Kilgallen; her great grandchildren, Logan Boehm, and Madison and Sierra Hancock; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at 12:30 pm at Our Lady of Victories Church, Main Street, Sayreville, followed by interment at Old Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at The Gundrum Service “Home for Funerals”, 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy, on Friday, December 13 from 4 to 6 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Katherine’s name be made to the Sayreville Historical Society, or the Sayreville association for Brain Injured Children (BIC).
