Maria T. Giera, 65, of Sayreville died on Monday June 8, 2026 at home.


Born in Perth Amboy, Maria was previously employed as a computer programmer before answering her true calling as a Licensed Professional Counselor at Salvia Community Counseling in Lodi. She found great joy and purpose in helping children and families strengthen their emotional bonds and navigate life’s challenges with compassion and understanding.


Maria was a devoted member and dedicated supporter of the United Poles of America (ZPA) in Perth Amboy, where she played an active role in helping the club flourish. She was also a faithful member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in South Amboy.


She had a deep love for travel, especially spending time at the beach, and cherished every opportunity to be surrounded by her friends and family. Maria’s warmth, generosity, and caring spirit touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her.


She was the beloved daughter of the late Chester and Stanislawa “Stella” Kasztan Giera and was predeceased by her husband, Cristian Pedestru.


Maria is survived by her loving son, Dean Stephenson; her brother and sister-in-law, Chester and Karen Giera; her sister and brother-in-law, Theresa and Andreas Hoeverman; along with many extended family members, dear friends, and all whose lives she impacted through her kindness, guidance, and unwavering support.


Cremation was private. A memorial service will be held on Friday June 12, 2026 at 3:30pm during visitation from 1 to 4pm at The Gundrum Service “Home For Funerals” 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy.
