Marie T. Martin Sorrentino, 95, of South Amboy died on Tuesday October, 19 2021 at home. Born in South Amboy she lived there all her life. Before retiring she was employed as a Practical Nurse at Amboy Care Center. A graduate of St. Mary’s High School, South Amboy she was a member of St. Mary’s R.C. Church and the choir. An avid bowler, she was president of the Women’s Bowling League and enjoyed puzzles, especially crosswords. A foster mother to 4 newborn babies, she always opened her heart to friends and neighbors in need.
Daughter of the late William and Julia Ferren Martin she is also predeceased by her husband of 60 years Albert H. Sorrentino in 2007 and her daughter Elizabeth Ann Guarente in 2008. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law James W. Sorrentino and Susan Fowler of Manalapan and Albert Sorrentino and Ann of Monroe; her grandchildren Kimberly Ann and her husband Matt, Adam and Christopher; her son-in-law John E. Guarente; her step-granddaughter Elise Goss and her husband Adam and her great-grandchildren Robert John “RJ” and Dylan.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday October 26, 2021 at 8:45am from The Gundrum Service “Home For Funerals” 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy followed by a 9:30am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church. Entombment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be on Monday from 4 to 8pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
