Mark Bratus

Mark Bratus, 70, of South Amboy died peacefully at home on Sunday March 7, 2021 surrounded by his family. Mark was born on February 21, 1951 in South Amboy, where he lived most of his life. He attended St. Mary’s through high school and was a member of the basketball team. He received a basketball scholarship and graduated from Biscayne College in Florida and later attended Kean University, earning a masters degree. Mark spent most of his career in education beginning in South Amboy and retiring as Director of Special Education at Union County Vocational Technical Schools. He was a member of St. Mary’s R.C. Church, South Amboy and coached basketball for many years. Mark was passionate about college basketball and spending time with his family and friends. He was a husband, father and friend who will be missed by all who loved him.

Son of the late Mary Lenahan Bratus he is also predeceased by his brother Dennis Bratus. He is survived by his wife Patricia Hagerman Bratus; his children Mark and his wife Lauren, Meredith Sappington and her husband Jeffrey and Michael; his grandchildren Amelia and Abigail as well as his extended family including Rev. James Hagerman, Jeanette Kassay and her husband George and their children and Craig Poulson and his wife Jennifer and their children.

Funeral services will be held on Friday March 12, 2021 at 8:45am from The Gundrum Service “Home For Funerals” 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy followed by a 9:30am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church. Interment will be in New Calvary Cemetery, Parlin. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4 to 7pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Sisters of Mercy, McAuley Hall Health Care Center, 1633 Highway 22, Watchung, NJ 07069.
