Martha Rokita Gerula

Martha J. Rokita Gerula, 87, of the Morgan section of Sayreville died on Sunday December 6, 2020 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy. Born in Brooklyn (Greenpoint), New York she moved to Morgan in 1967.  A member of St. Mary’s R.C. Church, South Amboy she was also a teacher aide at Jesse Selover School in Morgan and at St. Mary’s Nursery School in South Amboy.  She also served as an Election Poll clerk and was a former member of the St. Mary’s Rosary Society, the Morgan Athletic Association, Morgan Panthers and Morgan First Aide Ladies Auxiliary.  She was also a member of the St. Lawrence Altar and Rosary Society, Sayreville Senior Citizens Tuesday Club, Sayreville St. Stan’s Senior club, St. Mary’s Church Senior Club,  South Amboy Senior Club and Women of the Moose Perth Amboy Chapter.

Daughter of the late Alex and Martha Rokita she is also predeceased by her husband Paul Gerula in 1999 and her grandson PJ Gerula Jr.  She is survived by her son Paul J. Gerula (Ruthann) of SC; her daughters Christine M. Applegate (Gary) of NV; Beverly A. Gerula (fiancé Bill Hagelgans) of NJ; her grandsons Michael and Joseph Gerula (Terese) and great-grandsons Joseph and Dominic Gerula.

Visitation will be held only on Monday December 14, 2020 starting at 8:30am from The Gundrum Service “Home For Funerals” 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy followed by a 10:30am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church, South Amboy. Interment will immediately follow at Christ Church Cemetery, South Amboy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Senior Meal Program of Middlesex County, Office of Aging & Disabled Services, 75 Bayard Street 5th floor, New Brunswick, NJ 08901.
