Matthew J. Woods Obituary

Matthew J. Woods, 80, of Parlin died on Wednesday July 23, 2025 at home. Born in New York City he was a veteran of the U.S. Army. A 1978 graduate of the New York Institute of Technology he earned his Master’s Degree at Marist College and was employed as an Inspector with the New York Police Department for 32 years until retiring in 2000. A member of St. Bernadette R.C. Church, Parlin he was also a member of the NY State Fraternal Order of Police, the NY 10-13 Association, the New York City Captain’s Endowment Association and the FBI National Academy Association.


Son of the late James P. and Catherine Nolan Woods he is also predeceased by his wife Anne M. Neary Woods in 2017; his daughter Jennifer Woods in 1978; his brothers Thomas, Richard and James Woods and his sister Catherine Laverty. He is survived by his daughter Lynn Woods; his brother Patrick Woods and many nieces and nephews.


Funeral services will be held on Tuesday July 29, 2025 at 8:45am from The Gundrum Service “Home For Funerals” 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy followed by a 9:30am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Bernadette Church. Interment will be in Holy Cross Burial Park, East Brunswick. Visitation will be on Monday from 3 to 7pm.
