Patrick “Woody” McCarthy, 73, of Spring Hill, Florida passed away on Thursday July 30, 2026 at home. Born in South Amboy he lived there until moving to Florida in 2012. He was previously employed by Middlesex County. He was a member of St. Mary’s R.C. Church, South Amboy, the Elks Lodge, the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Sons of the American Legion. He was an Exempt Member and former Captain of Enterprise Hook & Ladder, South Amboy. He loved the outdoors, music and traveling with Victoria on cruises around the world.
Son of the late Woodrow and Mary Rita Colligan McCarthy he is also predeceased by his wife Karen Applegate McCarthy in 2001; his sons Christian McCarthy in 2009 and Jason McCarthy in 2011; his brother Michael “Woody” McCarthy in 2017 and his sister Mary Rita McCarthy in 2009. He is survived by his partner Vicki Foy; his daughter Rebecca McCarthy and her husband Brian McQuade; his stepdaughter Colleen Bosse; his sister Nancy Ayers; his grandchildren Karen and Avery; his nieces and nephews Kelly Ayers, Brandy Hatfield and her husband Ryan, Michael McCarthy, Thomas Ayers and Nicholas Charmello and his great-nephew Hunter.
Cremation was private. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday August 29, 2026 at 10:30am at St. Mary’s Church, 256 Augusta Street, followed by interment in Christ Church Cemetery. Memorial visitation will be on Friday from 3-6pm at The Gundrum Service “Home For Funerals” 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Mary’s Food Pantry.
