Richard Moran, 80, of South Amboy died on Wednesday May 29, 2024 at JFK Medical Center, Edison. Born in South Amboy he lived there all his life. A United States Air Force and Air National Guard veteran he was employed by Conrail as a police officer until retiring in 1988 and then as a security officer at JFK Hospital, Edison. He was a member of St. Stephen’s Lodge #63, the American Legion Post 62, South Amboy, the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the South Amboy St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee, serving as Grand Marshal in 2016 and was honored as South Amboy Irish American Association Irishman of the Year in 2012. Rich was also a member of St. Mary’s R.C. Church, South Amboy and the South Amboy Zoning Board.
Son of the late William and Eileen Ryan Moran he is also predeceased by his son Andrew Moran in 2011; his brothers William, Jr., James and Francis Moran; his sisters Margaret LaTourette and Catherine Murphy and his K-9 Bandit. He is survived by his wife Catherine Russell Moran; his son and daughter-in-law Sean and Ryan Moran; his daughter and son-in-law Lorrie and Joe Aloyo; his sisters Eileen Werner and her husband Carl, Mary Raber, Jacqueline Jones and her husband Samuel and Joann Janik and her husband James; his grandchildren Kristin and Rebecca Mahoney, Chelsea Nebus, and Maisie and Rory Moran; his great-grandchildren Mason and Colin Nunez; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday June 2, 2024 at 5:30pm at The Gundrum Service “Home For Funerals” 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy. Cremation will be private. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2 to 6pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the South Amboy First Aid Squad, P.O. Box 328, South Amboy, NJ 08879.
