Robert Bergstrom Obituary

Robert Peter Bergstrom, 79, a beloved husband, father, brother, Vietnam veteran, and dedicated friend passed away peacefully on April 27, 2024.  He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, and humor that touched the lives of all who knew him.

Born May 25, 1944 in Glen Ridge, New Jersey. He grew up in Newark, NJ before moving to Hazlet and graduating from Raritan High School in 1963. He went on to serve his county bravely in the Vietnam War before returning home as a student at Glassboro State College, to embark on a successful 30-year career at International Flavors and Fragrances (IFF) as a lab technician and chemist.

He is predeceased by his parents, Sven Erik Bertil Bergstrom and Ellen Anine Bergstrom nee Greenback, and his sisters June-Ann Woods and her husband James, and Lynn Kiley. He is survived by his beloved wife, Donna, his children, Jennifer and Jason, his dearest sister, Linda Belotti and her husband Ronnie, his loving Aunt Sis, his brother-in-law, Frank Kiley, numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law and many nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.

In his personal life, Robert was twice blessed in marriage. His first marriage to Patricia brought two children into this world, who were the pride and joy of Robert’s life. He married Donna (Dowd) Boyd Bergstrom in 2014. They originally met in high school, but their lives took them on different paths until many years later when they reconnected and chose each other as life partners. They enjoyed many beautiful moments together, including adding three adult children and their spouses to Robert’s extended family – J. Richard Boyd Jr. and Jennifer, Tasha Leigh Rakota and Anthony, and Alex Boyd and Stacy and nine grandchildren – Madison, Anthony, Connor, Cameron, Ava, Gunner, Braelynn, Penelope, and William. Both families loved and accepted the new additions as one of their own.

Passionate about the outdoors, Robert found solace and joy in the art of fishing, He could often be found on the ocean enjoying the beauty of nature.

Among his many talents, Robert was renowned for his exceptional skills in the kitchen. A true culinary artist, he delighted friends and family with his delicious creations, leaving memories with every meal shared.

Above all, Robert will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, and quick-witted humor. His laughter and genuine kindness touched the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

In honoring Robert’s memory, may we strive to emulate the love and compassion he shared so freely with others. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished in our hearts. We will miss you, Bob!
