Robert P. “Bob” Stary passed away on December 26, 2025 at the age of 91.
Bob was born in South River and lived most of his life in the Parlin section of Sayreville. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving his country in the Korean War.
After leaving the Army, Bob opened Bob’s Barber Shop in South Amboy. He loved his job, chatting with his customers while cutting their hair with precision. He only recently retired after serving that community for 65 years. He was a kind and generous man, giving countless free haircuts to those who could not afford to pay.
Away from the shop, Bob married the love of his life, Martha (Kovaleski) Stary, in 1957. She predeceased him in 2020. He enjoyed spending time with his family, which includes his three children, Linda Conroy (Marty), Robert Jr. (Josie), and Kurt, his three grandchildren, Shana, Carl, and Ross Conroy, and his great-grandson James D’Orazio.
Entombment in Sacred Heart Cemetery Mausoleum, Parlin was private under the direction of The Gundrum Service “Home For Funerals” 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
