Shirley Kurpiecki McCue, 86, of South Amboy died on Thursday October 22, 2020 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge. Born in Ashland, Pennsylvania she moved at a young age to South Amboy. She first worked as a floor girl for Harry Finkelstein’s, South Amboy before retiring from Federal Business Centers, Edison in 2001. A member of the South Amboy Senior Citizens, she enjoyed trips to Atlantic City with her sister Chickie, playing the slot machines, Bingo and scratch offs. Her favorite color was purple and she loved Betty Boop. She was loved by all of her extended family and friends.
Daughter of the late George, Jr. and Thelma “Big Chick” Marlow Mendler she is also predeceased by her brother Jimmy Mendler; her sister Thelma “Chickie” Burlew and her former husband Alexander Kurpiecki. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Robin and Jay Gregg of Aberdeen and Debbie and Ken James of South Amboy; her son and daughter-in-law Bill and Kathleen Kurpiecki of Neptune; her grandchildren Jennifer Huran and her husband Sean, Tim James and his wife Kali, Bristol O’Rourke and her husband Matthew, Kyle and his fiancée Carolyn Rivas, Michelle McGloan and her husband Donald and Heather Kurpiecki; her great-grandchildren Colton, Kinsleigh, Oliver, Donald William, II, Owen and Jeremy and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday October 28, 2020 at 6:30pm at The Gundrum Service “Home For Funerals” 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy. Cremation was private. Memorial visitation will be on Wednesday from 5 to 7pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Alzheimer’s New Jersey, 425 Eagle Rock Avenue, Suite 203, Roseland, NJ 07068.
