Susan E. Crane Hess

Susan Elizabeth Crane Hess, of Brick passed peacefully on Wednesday March 29, 2023, her 75th birthday. Susan was raised in Laurence Harbor where she met and married her husband Jim. She was a long time resident of South Amboy where she raised her children before moving to Brick. Susan lived a life of kindness and  compassion giving freely to her community and church. She was generous with her time and energy, always ready with a listening ear and advice when needed. She helped to provide food and clothes to families in school and church volunteering with the Interfaith Hospitality Network. She devoted her life to helping children for over 25 years as a paraprofessional in South Amboy and Point Pleasant. Susan touched everyone she met with her thoughtful, nurturing, and gentle manner, as well as her beautiful smile and sense of humor. She was a constant support to her friends and family. She was a comfort during times of sorrow and always willing to host a celebration in times of joy. 

Susan is the daughter of the late William Gerard and Eileen Rieger Crane she is also predeceased by her loving husband James W. Hess in 2021. She is survived by her daughter Lauryn and her husband Mark Kipper; her son David and his wife Victoria; her daughter Meredith and her husband Lucas Hartman; her daughter Kaileen; her brother William Crane and his wife Joanne; her sister Karen Richards and her husband Bill; as well as her grandchildren Autumn, Megan, David, Ashlyn, Aidan, Caitlyn, and Madalyn.

A receiving of friends and family will be held on Wednesday April 5, 2023 between 4 and 7 pm at The Gundrum Service “Home For Funerals” 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Interfaith Hospitality Network.
