Sylvester C. Attardi, 94, of South Amboy died on Saturday September 14, 2024 at home surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Jersey City, the youngest of seven children of immigrant parents. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He went onto work many years as a proud union teamster with Local 641. He met the love of his life Patricia McAnerney, they married, had four children and moved from Jersey City to South Amboy in the 60’s. He loved South Amboy and served as a Committeeman for over 50 years as well as a 1stWard Councilman. He also served as a commissioner for the South Amboy Housing Authority for over 30 years and cherished his time working with his dear friend Robert Noble Sr. He was a faithful member of St. Mary’s R.C. Church, South Amboy where he formerly served as an usher.
Son of the late Vito and Nancy Maiorana Attardi he is also predeceased by his wife of 57 years Patricia McAnerney Attardi in 2014. He is survived by his children James Attardi and his wife Peggy Ann, Michael Attardi, Patricia Kanecke and her husband Jack, and John Attardi and his wife Samantha; his grandchildren Daniel Attardi and his wife Leah, Brian Attardi, Shaun Kanecke and his husband Nicholas, Ryan Kanecke, Allison and Lauren Attardi; his great-granddaughter Fiona Attardi and countless friends and family.
He was a loyal, devoted and true friend to many and will be fondly remembered by so many. He was passionate about all sports but was steadfastly loyal to and a long suffering fan of his NY Jets. He loved being on the golf course and visiting the 19th hole with all his many friends. His impact on people runs deep and he will be missed beyond words.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday September 18, 2024 at 6:30pm at The Gundrum Service “Home For Funerals” 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy. Cremation will be private. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 3 to 7pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
