Thomas E. McNerny, Jr., 89, of East Brunswick died on Wednesday March 8, 2023 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Born in South Amboy he was a 1953 graduate of St. Mary’s High School. Afterwards he entered the United States Air Force and served a total of 8 years. He joined Eastern Airlines as an agent for 27 years and after retirement in 1989 ran a cleaning business for another 14 years. A member of St. Mary’s R.C. Church, South Amboy he enjoyed going to airshows and loved watching his grandchildren play sports.
Son of the late Thomas, Sr. and Marie Brennan McNerny he is also predeceased by his wife Patricia Mary Malacane McNerny in 2017; his first wife Dorothy Gemmel McNerny in 1983; his son Thomas McNerny and his daughter Patricia Tomlinson. He is survived by his children Colleen Balas and her husband Edward of Lake Ariel, Pennsylvania, Richard McNerny and his wife Julie of Battle Creek, Michigan, Michael McNerny and his wife Angela of Byhalia, Mississippi, Lorraine Zebro and her husband Kevin of East Brunswick, Scott McNerny and his wife Michelle of Matawan and Karen Christie and her husband Andrew of East Brunswick; his brother Daniel McNerny and his wife Nancy of South Carolina; 24 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday March 14, 2023 at 8:45am from The Gundrum Service “Home For Funerals” 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy followed by a 9:30am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church. Entombment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery Mausoleum, Keyport. Visitation will be on Monday from 4 to 7pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
