Walter "Wally" Peterson passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on August 6, 2024. Walter was born in South Amboy on September 12, 1951 to Andrew and Virginia Peterson.
He is survived by his children, Walter Peterson Jr., Jonathan Peterson, and Kimberly Gundrum; his grandchildren, Christopher and Grace Gundrum, and Walter “Trey” III and Mackenna Peterson; and many nieces and nephews. Walter is preceded in death by his wife, Anne Petersons, his parents, and his brothers, Oliver “Jerry,” Richard, Andrew, and Robert “Scott” Peterson.
Walter retired from Dupont and was dedicated, hard-working, generous, and compassionate. His creative and determined mindset was one of his greatest attributes. No matter the task, whether it be carpentry, home repair, automotive, or electronics, he faced everything with a coffee in hand and a “we can fix it” attitude. He was a man of many interests including fishing, boating, horticulture, solving Sudoku puzzles, and watching sports. He was also an avid stock market trader. Above all, he was devoted to his family. He cherished all of his time spent with his grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday August 14, 2024 at 10am at The Gundrum Service “Home For Funerals” 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy followed by interment in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Parlin. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4 to 8pm.
