William E. Coward, 78, of South Amboy died on Monday August 22, 2022 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in South Amboy he lived there all his life. Before retiring he was employed as an ironworker for over 35 years with Local 373, Perth Amboy. A U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War he was a member of St. Mary’s R.C. Church, South Amboy where he served as an usher. A passionate fan of the New York Yankees and Giants he enjoyed traveling and spending time at the shore. He loved his family and his grandchildren more than anything.
Son of the late William A. and Anna Toney Coward he is survived by his wife Janet Bailey Coward; his sons Gregory Coward and his girlfriend Maria Tarnowski, Brian Coward and his wife Natalee and Michael Caporale and his wife Melissa; his brother-in-law Robert Bailey and his wife Kate; his grandchildren Alexandria, Dylan, Colin, Ava Grace and Joseph; his niece and nephew Meghan and James Bailey; many cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday August 25, 2022 at 9:15am from The Gundrum Service “Home For Funerals” 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy followed by a 10am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church. Interment will be in New Calvary Cemetery, Parlin. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 3 to 7pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
