William J. “Bill” Tierney, Jr., 82, of South Amboy, died on Friday December 5, 2025 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center with his family by his side. Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania he moved to South Amboy in 1968. Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was a customer service agent for United Airlines, Newark for 33 years. A communicant of St. Mary’s Church he was also a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians serving as president from 2003-2004 and was honored as Hibernian of the year in 2009. He served as Grand Marshal of the South Amboy St. Patrick’s Day Parade in 1999. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 62 and Elks lodge 784.

Son of the late William J., Sr. and Elizabeth Walsh Tierney he is also predeceased by his son Robert S. Tierney in 2020. He is survived by his sons William “Billy” Tierney and his wife Maureen, Patrick Tierney and Brian Tierney and his wife Teri; his brother and sister-in-law John and Ann Marie Tierney; his daughter-in-law Denise Sunderman; his grandchildren Raymond, Bryanna, Victoria and Nicholas Tierney; his nephew John Tierney and his wife Julianna; his great-nephew Caden and his dog, Sarge.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday December 11, 2025 at 9:45am from The Gundrum Service “Home For Funerals” 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy followed by a 10:30am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church. Interment will be in Christ Church Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4 to 8pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society, Tinton Falls.
