Michael James Townsend, 67, of South Amboy died on Thursday December 7, 2017 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Born in Rahway, he lived in Sayreville before moving to South Amboy. He was the third generation owner of Townsend Moving and Storage, Westfield. He was devoted to his family business and to accommodating all his clients. He was a member of the American Legion Luke A. Lovely Post 62, South Amboy.
Son of the late Charles and Patricia Drummond Townsend, he is also predeceased by his siblings Kathleen, Shawn and Donald Townsend. He is survived by his wife Monica Seman Townsend; his daughters and sons-in-law, Marlene and Alex Albrecht of Middletown, Michele and Cory Dippold of Old Bridge, and Melanie and Matthew Sweatt of South Amboy; his siblings Charles Jr., Sharon, and Doreen Townsend and his grandchildren Kenneth, Julia, Ava, Brianna, Gavin, Hayden and Matthew. Michael was an avid outdoorsman, hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed antiquing. He was a dedicated family member who’s memory will live on in our hearts forever.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 11, 2017 at 8:45am from The Gundrum Service “Home For Funerals” 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy followed by a 9:30am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church, South Amboy. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, South Amboy. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2 to 6pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation at KidneyFund.org
